PS. If you are coming an RSVP is super helpful as the pizza oven can only put out so much at a time (if you don't have Facebook just email me at j e n @ o u r t a b l e . u s)
Shares are feeling very big right now because we have abundance but just remember that through the course of the season it all evens out!
BASQUE PEPPERS: I said you got these last week but I was wrong!! Last week it was Stocky Red Roasters...THIS week we have basque peppers! Great for flavor and a hint of spice in all kinds of dishes.
DILL: For your potato salad and aromatic pleasure of course.
RED ONION: These are Maria Nagy's Transylvanian Red onion (say that 10 times fast). A landrace red storage onion from a region of Transylvania that is famous for its storage onion production. Maria Nagy is one of the few subsistence farmers in Romania that still saved all of her own seeds, which she generously shared with our seed supplier in 2008. This onion is known for its “sweeter taste & particular aroma,” which was added to the Slow Food Ark of Taste in 2013.
SHUNKYO RADISHES: Asian long radishes! (SW site and a few others received hakurei's instead because we came up a few radishes short!) These radishes are tasty and easy to slice. The greens are tender and flavorful much like hakurei greens are.
PURPLE MAJESTY POTATOES: The last of the purple flesh potatoes. You could make a super groovy potato salad with these guys, using our dill, red onion and maybe even some peppers! I know there are two camps of potato salad folks (creamy vs vinegar (French style) base) but both would be great with these potatoes, although I'd probably steer on the vinegar side of life because of the dark and gorgeous color of these beauties.
JIMMY NARDELLO PEPPERS (Large Only): I'm sure you've had some time to experiment with these peppers. You know you've become a convert when you starting forcing those around you to try them.
YAYA CARROTS (Large Only): Gorgeous orange carrots. So sweet too!
PINOT LETTUCE (Large Only): A small but flavorful (and gorgeous) deep red lettuce.
NEW GIRL (Large Only): Our heirlooms are starting to fall off in production but these guys just keep going and going. They are definitely our energizer bunny of tomatoes this year. Great for sandwiches, pizza and more!
