Just a reminder that we WILL be delivering next Wednesday, July 5th. If you won't be in town for pick-up make sure to tell me to put your share on hold or have a friend pick-up. We hope you enjoy your holiday weekend!
NABECHON BUNCHING ONIONS: The first of our onions for the year. Great in a salad, on top of tacos (nachos, maybe?) or even grilled. Don't forget to use the greens as well!
CARMONA BUTTERHEAD LETTUCE: One of my favorite lettuces. Gorgeous, buttery and delicious! Great for a salad with fruit and nuts.
BLUEBERRIES: Ok, so I figured we would just go right ahead and send you first of the season for the holiday weekend!!!! These guys will soon be available by the flat in the online store soon (and also for u-pick here on the farm). YUM!!
DILL: Such a great herb. The smell is almost irresistible. Dill is great in potato salad, pickles, with salmon and capers, on a bagel with cream cheese and cucumbers and so much more! You can make herb butter, dill salad dressing, dry the dill...here is an article from The Kitchn with 8 different recipes!
BROCCOLI: Another first of the year! I was hoping these heads would have a little more time to grow but with the heat we had to harvest them sooner – still delicious and tasty. Great sautéed or grilled with some olive oil and chili pepper as a little appetizer!
CUCUMBERS: These are socrates, our thin skinned, seedless variety. Because of the thin skin one might assume these cucumbers are a little past their prime but when you bite into them they are still so crisp! You could even make some refrigerator pickles with these and the dill. If you have a bit of scaring on your cukes, those are from the notorious cucumber beetle. Another reason to support beneficial insects that predate on pests like these beetles.
ZUCCHINI: Great for grilling, adding to pasting, shaving for a salad or more!
ARUGULA: A nice little bag of tender arugula. These greens are surprisingly not too spicy and are perfect alone or with other greens in a salad, on top of toast, on top of pizza, eaten straight out of the bag...so many options! My favorite is prosciutto pizza topped with arugula (tossed with salt, pepper, olive oil and lemon), capers and shaved parm right out of the oven!
