May is here and the weather continues to be on our side! All of our onions and shallots were planted in the field early this week and now we have moved on to trellising the greenhouse tomatoes and planting out the cucumbers and squash. It is all happening so fast but it feels great to have stuff going out. This week in your CSA we have a delicious green romaine head as well as hakurei turnips and green guardsman scallions. GREEN GUARDSMAN Guardsman is a great scallion that was developed by master onion breeders in England. This green onion is super tasty and an absolute must on an salad. I especially like them on top of nachos! HAKUREI TURNIPS These turnips are one of my favorites. They are so bright and beautiful, a welcome addition to the spring crops. Eaten raw the flavor is sweet and fruity, and the texture is crisp and tender. The green tops are great raw or lightly cooked with the roots. Until Next Week! Jen |
