In farming news, Josh and Forrest were as busy as gophers working up and grooming beds in the hoop house for seeding. Last Monday I seeded a couple of beds in there with carrots, turnips, radishes, and mustard greens, and the beds they were working on today will get the same treatment. This is what we call successional planting and it allows us the ability to harvest individual crops over time as they mature from week to week. For example if you plant one bed of carrots per week over 4 weeks (and all goes according to plan), then at the end of the season you should be able to 'successionally' harvest those carrots over 4 weeks (or longer) just like they were planted! It's neat tricks of the trade like that that make me love the strategizing that goes along with farming. I may not be participating as much, but I'm going to bug Karen and Forrest as much as I can so I can know what's going on, and then share it with you!
That's it for now, keep your eyes peeled for those first buds on the trees. I've got my eyes on the blueberry bushes. Til' next time,
Louis
