I'd like to start something new here on the blog: every month I’m going to introduce us to one or more of our Consumer Members. My hope is that as we hear the stories of our different paths toward finding value in local food and shared community, we’ll be encouraged and excited to keep journeying along together. I also suspect that there are some latent friendships just waiting to happen within this wonderful group!
This month, I’m happy to introduce Lauren Trank. Lauren found Our Table when she did the Farmlandia tour last year. As Lauren told me, “At the grocery I heard about the benefits of membership; it spoke to my values. I wanted to support local agriculture and farmers, and be in a co-op with like-minded people.”

Lauren practices yoga daily, gardens, and volunteers at Sauvie Island Organic Farm Education Program and Living Yoga. She is an accomplished and adventurous cook and loves to share food with family and friends, as well as her knowledge about healthy eating. The co-op helps her do this — “The most meaningful aspect of the co-op for me is the CSA, as it keeps me eating seasonally: I’m in the winter CSA now. I love to cook, and it is exciting to try new recipes with ingredients that I may not have purchased otherwise. Harvesting blueberries at Our Table and freezing some helps me remember summer pickings all winter long.”
The grocery is also important to Lauren — “fabulous veggies, good organic food, bee pollen, and honey. The people who work at the store are knowledgeable and care about the customer.” As you can tell from her volunteer work, Lauren feels children should be included the farm experience. “It’s important for kids to understand where food comes from and how fabulous it tastes.”
