Well CSA fans, though the forecast might tell us the coldest days are behind us, it was still too cold today where it counted. We had hoped that the 40 degrees we were promised would happen sooner than expected and give us a couple hours of thaw time, but unfortunately it was not to be and we had to cancel today's share too. We've got high hopes and big plans for filling shares next week, but it's hard to know what everything will look like after 7+ days of below freezing temps. We do know though, that no matter what happens we're working on making sure you guys don't get left out in the cold at the end of the season (pun definitely intended).
But, don't think because we didn't harvest today we got to spend the morning in the nice warm office. We spent that time in the colder-than-it-is-outside packing shed up to our elbows in frozen blueberries. We've been trying to get a reserve stash of 5lb. bags packed and ready to go for grocery stores, and today just happened to be the day to do it. 61 bags later our fingers and toes were probably as cold as they would've been had we worked in the field, but we try not to get too comfortable around here. Anyways, it ended up leaving us enough time to take a nice apprentice portrait under a frozen birch. Something about red barns in frozen landscapes makes any picture beautiful. It goes the same for red blueberry bushes too.
